Wood Farm Primary School

Wood Farm Primary: a World School

Rooted in our community - connected to the World.

At Wood Farm we are proud to call ourselves 'Oxford's  World School.'

Our school community reflects the rich diversity of the world around us. With 38 nationalities and more than 50 languages represented, our children learn alongside classmates whose families, cultures, traditions and experiences span the globe.

We believe this diversity is one of our greatest strengths. It enriches our learning, strengthens our community and helps children develop the knowledge, understanding and empathy needed to thrive in modern Britain and an increasingly interconnected world.

While we celebrate the many cultures, languages and traditions represented within our school, we are equally proud of what unites us. Every child belongs to the Wood Farm community and, together, we learn about the shared values, history, traditions and experiences that help shape life in modern Britain.

Our World School identity reflects the values at the heart of Wood Farm. We are ambitious for every child to understand the world beyond their immediate experience. We help children recognise the beauty in different cultures, languages, traditions and perspectives. Most importantly, we help them make meaningful connections between themselves, their community and the wider world.

Learning About the World, Learning From Each Other

Being a World School is woven throughout our curriculum.

Through History, Geography and Religious Education, children explore people, places, beliefs and communities across time and place. They learn that every place has a story, every community has its own experiences, and that understanding the world helps us better understand one another.

As they learn about different countries, cultures and traditions, children also develop an understanding of British history, values and identity. We want our pupils to recognise that it is possible to celebrate what makes people different whilst also recognising what we share as members of a common community.

Our diversity enriches learning across the wider curriculum too.

In English, children encounter stories, authors and voices from across the world. In Geography, they explore different places, cultures and environments. In History, they learn how migration, trade, innovation and human experiences have shaped communities over time. In Religious Education, they develop an understanding of different beliefs, traditions and worldviews.

Children regularly make connections between subjects, helping them build a rich and increasingly connected understanding of the world.

Belonging

Our children belong to their family, their community, their school and to the diverse and welcoming society that makes up modern Britain.

At Wood Farm, we want every child to feel proud of who they are and confident in where they belong.

We celebrate the many languages, cultures, faiths and traditions represented within our community, whilst helping children understand that they are all part of something bigger. They belong to their family, their community, their school and to the diverse and welcoming society that makes up modern Britain.

We want children to understand that people can speak different languages, follow different traditions and have different experiences, whilst still belonging to the same community and sharing common values.

Children are encouraged to share their experiences, ask questions, celebrate differences and recognise common values. Through learning together, they develop both a strong sense of identity and a strong sense of belonging. We want every child to know that they are valued, that their story matters and that they have an important part to play in shaping the future.

Our annual International Festival is one example of this vision in action, bringing together families, cultures, languages and traditions in a joyful celebration of the remarkable community we are fortunate to be part of.

Many stories. One community. One world.

At Wood Farm, we celebrate the many stories that make up our community whilst recognising that we all belong to something bigger.

We believe children should leave primary school knowing who they are, where they belong and how they can contribute positively to the world around them.

We want them to be proud of their own heritage, curious about the experiences of others, connected to their community and equipped to play an active role in modern Britain and the wider world.
