Why can't the UK survive on its own?Geography - Autumn
Why can't the UK survive on its own?
Building on their geographical skills, children explore trade in and it's importance in a countries survival. They learn how international trade is underpinned by the presence of natural resources in certain countries and not others. Children look at the difference between trading for need and trading for want, and after considering how this can work on an individual level they explore this in a international context. They then formulate their own independent enquiry on the subject to investigate and share.

What makes things move?Design & Technology - Summer
What makes things move?
Children explore the forces of gravity, air resistance and water resistance, children explore how these can be observed in real life, even though they cannot be seen. Children then use this knowledge to investigate gears, levers and pulleys and how these cause objects to move. Children are shown how to make different levers and pulleys, and use these to design, make and evaluate their own pop-up book to retell a famous picture book, reflecting throughout on the design process, and constantly evaluating to improve.
